Encouraging & Assisting Philatelic Communication Membership is open to any philatelic writer, columnist, editor, or publisher — and anyone interested in philatelic communication. Our Journal: The Writers Unit’s quarterly journal, The Philatelic Communicator, offers a wide spectrum of news and articles of interest and benefit to philatelic writers, columnists, editors and publishers. Submissions for publication in this journal are always welcome from any source and will be given prompt consideration. The journal also provides information concerning coming philatelic literature competitions worldwide and lists the results of past such events. Subscription to the journal is included in the membership dues. Seminars are held at both the Spring Meeting and Annual Convention — or at StampShow — of the American Philatelic Society. Literature Competitions: The Writers Unit supports literature competitions in all national exhibitions. The Unit makes available assistance in setting standards for accreditation of philatelic literature judges by the APS, and promotes philatelic activities worldwide through its relations with the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie and its commission on philatelic literature. The Writers Breakfast is held at these two events as well as at some regional meetings of the Writers Unit that are held from time to time at major exhibitions. These breakfasts welcome everyone (not necessarily WU30 members), their families and friends, and serve as a means of exchanging ideas to enhance the craft of philatelic writing and the expansion of philatelic knowledge. Hall of Fame: At the APS Spring Meeting each year the Writers Unit announces new inductees to the Philatelic Writers Hall of Fame. A plaque on public display at the American Philatelic Research Library displays the names of the honorees in permanency and prominence. We need you! By joining and supporting the Writers Unit No. 30 of the APS you can contribute in a significant and permanent fashion to the future of philately. Your writings in the journal, sharing your ideas and experiences in philatelic writing and communicating for the guidance of others, is a lasting to all readers of your words in years to come.
