- The late William H. Bauer, the late Solomon Glass, Janet Klug, and Richard F. Winter have been inducted into the Writers Unit #30 Hall of Fame.

- The APS has adopted major judging changes to its philatelic literature competitions, including excluding most catalogues.

- The Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library in Denver, CO completed the purchase of a second building adjacent to the existing library which doubles its space.

- Noted philatelic author and judge William H. Bauer died unexpectedly at his home in Unadilla, New York.

- Immediate Past President Dane S. Claussen has agreed to take over the critique service, a service long provided by Charlie Peterson until his death earlier this year.

- William L. Welch, Jr., former editor of the APS American Philatelist and a member of Writers Unit #30, died September 4, 2009 in State College, PA.

- Charles J. “Charlie” Peterson, 75, died June 12, 2009 at his home in Laurel, MD after a long illness.

- The Second Quarter issue of the Philatelic Communicator contained a ballot for Writers Unit #30 officers, which was to returned to Secretary-Treasurer George B. Griffenhagen by July 20.

- A major information update and freshened design was begun for the Writers Unit #30 web site.

- The new webmaster has begun planning the redesign of the site.

- The Philatelic Communicator made the transition to color with the First Quarter issue.
January 15, 2009
- Webmaster Andrew McFarlane stepped down and was replaced by Albert W. Starkweather, editor of The Philatelic Communicator.
